Marvin Bonheur 's first book brings together ten years of photographs taken in Seine-Saint-Denis, near Paris, where he grew up.
His gaze, by turns tender, nostalgic or critical, bears witness to his experience in this unique territory.

Born in August 1991, Marvin Bonheur grew up in what is often referred to as a "lawless zone," a place where hope is scarce and the atmosphere oppressive. He hung out and played with his friends, but very early on, he felt the negative vibes associated with his identity and origins. As a child, he was revolted by the idea that dreams were not meant for a neighborhood kid whose only ambition was to keep his feet on the asphalt.

His series is divided into three parts, which also structure the work.

  • "Alzheimer," the first, delves into his memories, capturing the defining moments of his childhood and adolescence until his passing at 21. The photographs appear as fragments of memory, seeking to preserve and document the past.

  • "Therapy," the second chapter, explores the daily reality of today's youth, denouncing injustices and deconstructing the stereotypes of a culture often rejected by society. Marvin Bonheur approaches individuals, creates portraits and becomes aware of his attachment to "the forgotten."

  • "Renaissance," the final chapter, concludes the photographer's quest for identity, oscillating between the place that shaped him and the new perspectives he explores. These shots correspond to the moment when he began collaborating with sportswear brands, giving his photography a more assertive aesthetic. Marvin then asserts himself as an artist from the suburbs, claiming his legitimacy to represent this subject that is fully part of his identity.
