“Neighborhood Life” by The Girl In Yellow
Organic
His story begins within an Afro-Caribbean family where everything rested and revolved around one woman, his mother. In Creole, we speak of a “potomitan” woman, or the family support. She therefore grew up with the certainty that women were at the center of this world and the frustration that they were not recognized for their true value. This therefore had a major impact on the perception of her environment, of herself but also of her thoughts, her questions, her rants and her commitments today. Furthermore, as a black woman, she noted that society makes them more invisible and demands a certain posture from her, thus denying their plurality. The Girl in Yellow is a way to celebrate and honor the plurality of black women but also to address issues specific to black women and/or marginalized people.
Before launching into illustration, Daisy was a project manager in a digital agency. Although she was already drawing when she was younger, illustration reappeared in her life quite late, 2 years ago now. Initially, drawing was above all an outlet, a form of therapy, then gradually it became a means of representing multifaceted black women. A big fan of animated series and films, her style is very influenced by mangas, cartoons, video games and her colorful and tangy universe is a tribute to the album "Dirty Computer" by Janelle Monae, an inspiration from by the messages it carries and its aesthetics.
For Ukuta Lab, she created an exclusive series of portraits and life scenes of a young black Parisian in working-class neighborhoods. They take the form of postcards to collect, frame and share with friends. On sale exclusively within the village. Discover
